La pintura sobre lienzo

Adriana & Sociology.

Let's consider the evolution of our way of thinking.

How has that taken us to where we are now?

The first time I started considering these topics was from the words of the great writer Yuvhal Noah Harari, the author of the Sapiens trilogy. Since then I find myself thinking about how we, as the leading species, have changed our world.

For better or for worst.

The inherited goodness in humankind.

There is this persistent myth that by their very nature humans are selfish, aggressive and quick to panic.

The truth is that, as humans, we are complex creatures, we have a good side and a not-so-good side. The question is “which of both sides will you look at?”, this is the same when we ask “what is true?”. The answer is that things have the potential to become true if we believe in them.

Fictional entities and human cooperation.

A great number of strangers can productively collaborate together if they share common beliefs. Therefore, "belief" is the answer. This is what we call “fictional entities” or ``social constructs".

"Any human cooperation at large scale is established on common myths that only exist in the collective imagination of people."

Ignorant and uninterested people. What are we to become?

In this article, I focus on the fading interest, the ignorance, the lack of information and knowledge, the lack of use of our critical minds... that seems to be overtaking us. Ignorance can be a powerful tool in the wrong hands, it is an advantage that a group with power can use to dominate a less powerful group.

" Tyrants and autocrats have always understood that literacy, learning, books and newspapers are potentially dangerous. They can put independent and even rebellious ideas in the heads of their subjects. ", Carl Sagan.
